Derived from Sanskrit word ‘Ladduka’ Laddu is a sphere shaped sweet originating from Indian subcontinent. One of the earliest example is that around 4 BC legendary surgeon Susrata began using this miscellany – of course made with different ingredients i.e. sesame seeds, jaggery, peanut & many others together with ayurvedic medicinal herbs – as an antiseptic to treat his surgical patients. Contrary to how modern day’s Laddu may have come to the fore, its evaluation was a sweet journey. People started experimenting with different ingredients, sweetener & little amount of flavour and it became a popular dessert. Stuffed with chickpea flour, semolina, pista, almond, ghee, flavour and molded into a ball shape – Laddu has a variety of its own and occupies the top rung in Indian hierarchy of sweets. It is an omnipresent assortment of sweets whose unmistakable presence is there in every festival and occasion.
